What to Expect?

We’re so glad you’re considering a visit to Piqua Baptist Church! On the cross, Jesus said “It is finished”.  Sin was paid for, death was defeated, and His people are saved forever.  We’re pretty excited about that, so you’ll find our worship services filled with singing, prayer, confession, and encouragement from God’s Word. We consider our weekly worship gathering the highlight of our week. If you want to know what a typical worship is like, keep reading below.

Christ-Exalting Worship

Everything we do at Piqua Baptist is centered around Person and work of Jesus Christ. Our services begin with a welcome and a call to worship, in which a pastor reads a section of Scripture which highlights some element of the glory of God. Hearing about Who God is stirs our faith and prepares our hearts to praise Him.

Following the call to worship, we sing. Songs are a mix of hymns and contemporary praise songs, carefully chosen to point to the wonder and majesty of Jesus Christ.

After we sing, a pastor prays. The pastoral prayer is an important part of our weekly service. One of our pastors lead us in a prayer.

The pastoral prayer is followed by the Lord’s Supper. At Piqua Baptist, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper every week. After the Lord’s Supper, children from preschool up to 5th grade are invited to attend a class where qualified teachers communicate the good news of Jesus Christ to them in ways appropriate to their age. A nursery is available for infants and babies.

The most important part of our worship gatherings is the proclamation of the Word. Our pastors preach through books of the Bible, one verse at a time. We seek, with every text, to relate it to Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Messages are crafted to proclaim the excellencies of Jesus Christ, explain the gospel, and apply the gospel to our lives. Gospel-centered preaching puts Christ and the cross first and foremost in all we communicate and do.

After the sermon, a pastor leads us in a confession of sin and assurance of pardon. Having seen the beauties of Christ, we recognize our sin, turn from it and seek forgiveness from the mercy of God through Jesus Christ.

Finally, our services conclude with a benediction. A pastor blesses us with a prayer and scripture reading.
